A few things to know:

You set the color in-game (M → Group tab → "Change Tag Chat Color") and can recolor anytime.
You must be in a group and hold its Leader or Admin rank to use the color button.
Your tag is tied to whichever group you're in — joining a different group later won't carry it with you.
Server wipes reset colored tags, so you'll need to repurchase after each wipe.
If your group is disbanded or deleted, the tag goes with it.
